The Story of Trano Vato

Trano Vato is known as "The Home" to those of us who lived there, it was a dormitory for American and Canadian children. We all went to the school next door, called the "American School," which was staffed by American teachers, many from Minnesota. The Home and school were located in the extreme south of Madagascar, in a town formerly known as Fort Dauphin, now named Tolagnaro.

In the 1980's, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) mission board decided to shut the school down. The dormitory is now a hotel/restaurant and the school an office.

Those of us who lived there may have scattered to the four winds, but the bond between us is strong and the memories of "The Home" are very dear. This site is for the purpose of remembering "The Home" and for drawing those who were there together again.
